Integrated Electrical Services Safety Performance is Recognized With Prestigious 2009 Construction Industry Safety Excellence Award
HOUSTON (Nov 19, 2009) - Integrated Electrical Services, a leading national provider of electrical and communications services (Nasdaq: IESC, www.ies-co.com) announced that it has received a prestigious Construction Industry Safety Excellence Award (CISE) award from Construction Users Roundtable (CURT, www.curt.org). The award was accepted by IES Vice President of Safety, Harvey Hammock at an awards ceremony held Nov. 17 at the 2009 CURT National Conference.
"We are pleased to name IES as a 2009 CISE recipient in the Special Trade Contractors category (North American Industry Classification System Code 238)," said Art Goehry, CURT Safety Committee Chairman. "Over the years, contractor applications continue to improve in both safety practices and metrics, for which IES is a prime example. IES is narrowing the gap to "zero incidents" through an employee-based safety culture that complements Observed Safety Behavior Best Practices."
Formed in 2000 by construction and engineering executives representing major consumers of construction services from across the United States, CURT has a primary goal of enacting broad, effective owner representation and increased owner leadership on construction industry issues. The CISE program seeks to encourage efforts to improve safety by recognizing safety leaders in all segments of the construction industry. Award applications were distributed to CURT members as well as leading national contractor associations and local construction user councils throughout the United States and Canada. The program establishes a regimen through an unwavering commitment to world class safety practices and continuous improvement in safety performance through innovation.
"IES shares a commitment to safety with our customers, and is honored to be recognized by CURT," said Michael Caliel, president and chief executive officer of IES. "Safety is a cornerstone of our culture at IES and we are pleased that important industry groups continue to take notice of our performance."
Caliel continued: "A safe and healthy workforce is essential to project performance and productivity and I commend our entire team, including our Vice President of Safety Harvey Hammock, for their leadership in creating and more importantly, implementing our safety program and culture. Harvey and the team have truly made a difference in the lives of our workers, their families and our customers. This award and the recent recognition from ABC, IEC-CNA and Great Plains Safety and Health are a barometer of the hard work and success of the IES team."
"Safety improvement has and will continue to be a key deliverable and core value for CURT and its member firms. Those who do an excellent job at reducing construction workers' injuries set the bar higher for everyone," said Gregory Sizemore, CURT executive vice president.
Other Recent Awards for IES
IES also has received prestigious national and regional awards in recent months.
IES received the 2009 IEC/CNA Safety Award from Independent Electrical Contractors, Inc. (IEC National, www.ieci.org). IES won in Category Three (contractor with more than 71 employees)
The IEC-CNA Safety Awards recognize electrical contracting companies that excel in establishing and maintaining safety programs that result in incident rates that are significantly below the average OSHA recordable incident rate. The judges look for commitment to safety from management, employee involvement, active participation, and controls over major exposure to loss.
IEC is a trade association based in Alexandria, Va., composed of more than 3,500 members with 68 chapters nationwide. IEC is the nation's premier trade association representing America's independent electrical and systems contractors. IEC National aggressively works with the industry to establish a competitive environment for the merit shop - a philosophy that promotes the concept of free enterprise, open competition and economic opportunity for all.
"For IES, earning award recognition from reputable industry and professional organizations throughout the nation serves as validation to our 4,000 employees that their dedication to safety is making a difference. Being the best requires constant commitment to high standards of performance and teamwork and we are clearly performing up to the task." said Mr. Caliel.
IES also won a 2009 Gold Hard Hat Award from Colorado Construction magazine in the Outstanding Industrial Project for its role as an electrical contractor in the Vestas Towers Project in Pueblo, Colo. IES, other 2009 Gold Hard Hat Award winners and the Vestas Towers project are featured in the October 2009 issue of Colorado Construction magazine.
The Vestas wind-tower production complex is the largest of its type in the world, occupying more than 600,000 square feet and four buildings. Construction was fast-tracked, with the groundbreaking on Oct. 1, 2008, and work completed Aug. 31, 2009.
"We speak for the entire A/E/C industry in Colorado in saying congratulations to the Vestas Towers project for being among the best of the best in 2009," said Mark Shaw, senior managing editor, Colorado Construction magazine.
The annual Gold Hard Hat Awards is a competition to determine the best projects completed by firms in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, North and South Dakota. Firms involved in any aspect of a project were eligible to enter.
Judging of the winners was done by a panel of industry experts based on design quality and innovation, craftsmanship, the project's contribution to the community and the industry, solution of unique design and construction challenges and overall excellence. The size of the project was not a factor in the judging.
